Deputy Leader of the Conservative MEPs welcomes passing of EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill into law
Following the passing of the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill by both Houses of Parliament, Her Majesty the Queen has signified her Royal Assent so the Bill now passes in to law. This means the Government can now trigger #Article50 of the Lisbon Treaty which the Prime Minister, Theresa May, has indicated will happen by the end of March 2017.
Commenting, Jacqueline Foster MEP said:
"With this historic decision by both House of Parliament and Royal Assent from the Queen, the Prime Minister will be able to begin the process of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union. It is so important that we now work together to help the Prime Minister get the best deal for Britain. The UK is in a strong position; let's seize the opportunity of the most important negotiation for our country in a generation.
"I have already stated my personal commitment to assist the Government where I can in my areas of expertise, particularly in the fields of aviation, aerospace, maritime, road and rail. Now is not the time to talk our country down!"
